Brief Background:
The perennial herb Nepeta cataria L., commonly known as catnip.  In traditional use, catnip is believed to have sedative, carminative, and antispasmodic properties. As such, it has been used in the treatment of insomnia, flatulence, and upset stomach. It has also been used traditionally to treat colds, the flu, and fevers.

Expert Opinion and Historic Precedent:
In Kazakhistan, Nepeta ucrainica L. has been traditionally used as an herbal tea. The ethnobotanical indications for catnip include insomnia, flatulence, and upset stomach as well as colds, the flu, and fevers. Catnip is good for digestion, anxiety, and stress.
