Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus (Eucalptus globulus)

Eucalyptus is native to Australia. The leaves special value is their ability to control and regulate areas with a high water table, such as bogs and swamps. Eucalyptus is known as the “oil of respiration” in holistic aromatherapy practice, due to its suggested anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, expectorant and anti-spasmodic properties.

Eucalyptus oil is used commonly as a decongestant and expectorant for upper respiratory tract infections or inflammations. The oil is rubbed directly on the chest or back for all respiratory problems. The oil is found in numerous over-the-counter cough and cold lozenges as well as in inhalation vapors or topical ointments.

Eucalyptus is one of the most powerful natural antiseptics. The aged oil forms ozone, which specifically destroys bacteria, fungi and viruses. Eucalyptus is used as a medicinal tea for bronchitis or throat inflammation. An infusion can be made with the leaves and taken internally during the acute stages of colds, coughs and flu.
