Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)

Brief Background:
Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) has traditionally been used by Native Americans as an oral diuretic for the treatment of edema. Horsetail is also occasionally used for osteoporosis, nephrolithiasis, urinary tract inflammation, and wound healing (topical).

Expert Opinion and Historic Precedent:
Horsetail has been used for “post-traumatic and static edema,” “irrigation therapy” for bacterial and inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract, and for “renal gravel” (urolithiasis). Topical use of horsetail has also been approved as an aid to wound healing.
