Sorrel (Rumex acetosa)

Brief Background: 
Historically, sorrel has been used as a salad green, spring tonic, diarrhea remedy, weak diuretic, and to soothe irritated nasal passages. In Turkey it is utilized as a treatment for anemia and as an appetite stimulant.

Expert Opinion and HistoricPrecedent:
  In ancient Egypt and Greece, sorrel was used to aid digestion and offset the effects of rich foods due to its acidity. In use since the middle ages in Europe, it has traditionally been employed as a salad green and later became popular for prevention of scurvy owing its vitamin C content.
