Honey

Honey

Honey is used as a common sweetener and is the natural miracle drawn from the nectar of flowers that bees produce. Honey is a highly concentrated source of many essential nutrients, including large amounts of carbohydrates (sugars), some minerals, B-complex vitamins, and vitamins C,D, and E. Honey should never be given to children under the age of one.

Honey can be bought at any local grocery store, but natural honey still in the honey bee cone can be purchased from Eastern Market. Since 1803, “Summer Saturdays in Detroit means it’s time to shop at the venerable and still popular Eastern Market, a destination drawing untold thousands of bargain hunters for more than 125 years” (p. 1).  A great place to buy honey and other natural herbs and spices is from Eastern Market.

This natural antioxidant made from bees is a moisturizing hair and skin care treatment that protects, heals, and sooths. Honey is a natural non-oily moisturizer that naturally cleanses and nourishes the skin. For a honey pack facial, apply a finger full to dry skin. Gently massage the honey into the skin. Use upward strokes. Massage, pat, and rub onto your face. Rinse with warm water until completely washed. The massage will create a deep warm, lasting glow. Apply a few drops of warmed honey in to ear, to help stop an earache. Place a cotton ball in the ear after applying honey.

The following represent natural remedies using honey. Weekly facials help to stimulate circulation to the facial area and are excellent for cleansing the pores.

Treatment for Dry Hair

¼ cups honey

¼ cup of olive oil

Stir until the mixture is smooth and apply to clean wet hair. Let the mixture soak for at least 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Style as usual.

Arthritis Relief

Mix well 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 ½ cups of water, and 1 ounce apple cider vinegar. Drink once a day. You should be free of symptoms after using daily for 1 month.
